Pumpkin Season
I am going to start this post by apologising for no updates since August! I mentioned it in the Shropshire petal fields post that I was having car issues, and it has now FINALLY been sorted, by getting a new car. 😂 It isn’t a very interesting story, so I won’t bore you with it, but now, hopefully things are back on track, and I can fill this blog with lots of posts and photos for you to enjoy.
Right, now that is out of the way, last week Skylar and I went to the Llynclys Hall Farm Shop, near Oswestry to visit their amazing pumpkin fields with our friends Hannah and Damson.
I booked our ticket online via the Llynclys Hall Farm Shop website, as we were going on the weekend it was £5 plus a booking fee which was a whopping 24p! 😂 We booked for a 10 am arrival, hoping to beat the crowds which, according to the website, were due to arrive from 11am onwards (at least, that was my theory as the booking slots from 11 am to midday were already fully booked).
Hannah and Damson picked us up at 9:30 am, and we headed off to the pumpkins. I was especially excited as I had never been to a pumpkin field to take photos of Skylar before, or even a pumpkin field for that matter! So, a couple of bucket list items were being ticked off (yes, I know they are not particularly exciting for a bucket list, but you have to start somewhere…)

We were amongst some of the first to arrive, parking in the front row right next to the field. We quickly put our wellies on – good call from Hannah on that one, as it had rained a lot the night before and was a bit sloppy on the main pathways. We then got the doggos out of the car and headed in.
After having literary got 30 meters into the field from the entry tent and Skylar decided now was a great time for a poop! I had taken her out before we left, but she is nick named ‘Skylar two poos’ for a reason… 💩 Once that situation had been delt with, a further 30 meters on, Damson did the same thing. 😂 Now both the dogs were a few grams lighter, we continued down the field out the way of most of the other visitors and set up shop in the shadow of a big oak tree. As the sun was drifting between clouds, this meant that we would have some nice soft light even if the sun was out.

After building our ‘set’ we got to photographing. To start with I was using my 70-200 f2.8 lens, as this is my favourite for pawtraits. I captured some (in my opinion) beautiful images of Skylar amongst the pumpkins before switching to my wider lens for a top down shot of Skylar on the pumpkins. I say on, because she knew I had treats and that way she could be that much closer to them. 😂 A top down shot it also gives a nice bit of variation to the images that I was capturing.

With the time passing, our shaded area was on the move, so we set up a short distance away, and I was able to get some images of both Skylar and Damson together looking like a couple of naughty school children in their school photo. ❤️
We then moved Skylar out of the scene so Hannah and I could get some images of Damson on her own. This little lovely, is such a poser! Ears forward, head tilted and everything! The older Skylar gets, the more serious she looks in images, I think it is due to her ridiculously long ears! Even when they are forward you can’t always tell.

After getting our images, we treated Skylar and Damson to a nice walk around the field, before picking a few pumpkins for Hannah’s mum. We then headed home and just in time, as a few minutes after leaving the on/off showers started and were around for the rest of the day.

Llynclys Hall Farm is famous for its pumpkins and is one of the largest growers in the area. They also boast a fabulous farm shop filled with home grown vegetables, as well as supplying other locally produced produce. The pumpkin field is open daily from Saturday 7th until Tuesday 31st October 2023. Tickets can be purchased via the Llyncyls Hall Farm Shop website.
